Needle Felting 101: Mini Sushi Project, Exclusively at Love Fest Fibers
Ready to jump into the soothing and satisfying world of needle felting? In this all levels class, you'll explore this beautiful art form to make delicious (looking) mini sushi sets from colorful wool roving.
Together we’ll explore:
Creating and manipulating shapes using felting needles & wool
How to use wool materials to create project bases
Risa’s tips & tricks for blending color
Walk away from class with at least 2 felted sushis of your choice and understanding of how to start your own projects. You'll go home with materials, resources and tools in a cute box to keep felting!
Risa's classes are fun, welcoming, and relaxing. Great for beginners but also good for those with some felting skills already!

Needle Felting 101 | Woodland Creatures at Workshop SF
Ready to jump into the soothing and satisfying world of needle felting? In this beginner-friendly felting workshop, professional multimedia artist Risa Culbertson will introduce you to the fundamentals of needle felting and hard launch your journey into the vibrant world of fiber arts!
Risa will teach you three essential techniques: needle felting wool on wool, felting over a form, and felting directly on fabric. Using these techniques, you’ll create your very own furry creature inspired by San Francisco’s iconic wildlife such as pigeons, Telegraph Hill parrots, racoons, coyotes, and more. By the end of the class, you’ll have a solid foundation in these versatile techniques, which can be applied to larger and more detailed projects. Plus, you’ll head home with your very own felting kit to keep the creative adventures going!

Visible Mending | A Better Sweater at Love Fest Fibers
Do you have a much loved sweater that you’d love to mend or want to adorn a favorite piece of clothing? In this workshop, you’ll learn to needle felt directly onto your clothes—whether it's to spice up that cute fitting but slightly meh sweater or to cover up a coffee stain or little hole in your favorite piece
Risa will guide us through the steps to felt onto fabric and make either a patch ready for sewing or work directly on your favorite clothing. By the end of class, you’ll not only know how to apply these techniques on everything you own but also have a kit to bring home and continue your felting practice!

Risa will lead you through how to make a zine and facilitate brainstorming to help you tell your own story. A local SF artist, you can see Risa's illustrations and fiber sculptures around the city and at Workshop SF.
Well-Crafted is a FREE art event presented by Market Street Arts with support from Workshop SF, the San Francisco Office of Economic & Workforce Development, and Jay's Grill. Market Street Arts is an initiative of the Mid-Market Business Association.

Instructor: Risa Iwasaki Culbertson is a fiber artist, letterpress machinist, illustrator, and master crafter living in the Bay Area. The abundance of Risa’s work is silly and playful which is visually approachable at face value but, there is also a personal story behind each of her quirky creations. She uses the power of play as a vehicle to strengthen connections, replenish one’s energy, problem solve, inspire, and be inspired. Her colorful artwork has deeper meaning but, it is meant for all to enjoy.
